Where to study

Choosing where to study is very important. Many students apply to local institutions or ones within a reasonable distance from home for financial reasons but there are lots of other factors to consider.

Answer the following questions to help you decide what is important to you:

Would you prefer the institution to be

  • small or large?
  • rural or urban?
  • a self-contained campus or integrated into a city or town?
  • traditional or modern?
  • university or college? (Some further education colleges offer part or whole degree courses in conjunction with a local university.)

Do you want to be

  • close to home or further afield?
  • in a particular region?
  • outside the UK for some or all of the time?
  • easily accessible by public transport?

Is it important to you that

  • you can travel from home daily or weekly?
  • university accommodation is available in your first year?
  • you can find privately rented accommodation?
