A total of 4974 students completed Year 11 in 2006 compared with 4822 in 2005.


Full-time education

83.4% of students in Bedfordshire and Luton continued in full-time education, an increase from 82.8% the previous year.

Employment and Training

7.6% of students went into employment or training, down 1.4% on 2005 and 3.2% on 2004.

Not settled in Full-time Education, Employment or Training

Of those who were not settled in full-time education, employment or training 0.6% were active in voluntary and part-time work activities, 5.1% were available for work and 0.5% were not active in the labour market because of illness (9), family commitments including pregnancy (10), or custodial sentence (2).

Moved Out of Contact and No Response

Only 2 young people had left the area and their destinations could not be established.

It was not possible to make contact with 2.8% of the young people. This compares with a national figure of 1.7% in 2005 (the latest national figures available).

Only 2 young people refused to participate in the survey.
