2006 Year 11 School Leavers' Destinations


Where do young people go when they leave school?

The School Leavers’ Destinations Survey, completed during the autumn of 2006, shows the destinations of students at the end of Year 11 in 2006 from all schools in Bedfordshire and Luton.  Separate figures are also shown for the two local education authorities – Bedfordshire and Luton.  A standard set of definitions is used.

Definitions


Year 11 Young people who completed compulsory education in 2006.
Additional Needs Young people classified as having additional needs in line with the DfES definition including those with and without specific statements of educational need and young people in both mainstream and special schools.
Category
Young People who:
Full-time education have opted to continue full-time education at school or college (not always the school they were at previously)
Work-based Learning have enrolled in Government supported training where they are not yet employed (this includes Life Skills Training)
Employment with Training have entered full-time employment with training leading to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent or higher, or where the work entails training which could be accredited towards an NVQ 2
Employment No Training have entered full-time employment without training
Voluntary and part-time activities were involved in full or part-time voluntary work and/or part-time paid work
Available to the labour market were unemployed but available to look for work
Not available to the labour market because of illness, family commitments, custodial sentence or other reasons were not available to look for work
Moved out of contact have moved out of the Connexions area and whose destination could not be determined
No response did not respond to letters, telephone calls and other follow up when Connexions staff were trying to track these young people
Refused to participate in survey Only four Year 11 students refused to participate out of a total of 8018.  These have not been shown separately but have been included in the ‘No response’ category
