A total of 8018 students completed Year 11 in 2006 compared with 7791 in the previous year. These figures include 566 students in 5 independent schools in Bedfordshire.

In 2006 6.5% of Year 11 leavers went into employment or training compared with 7.5% in 2005.

Of those who were not settled in full-time education, employment or training 0.6% were active in voluntary and part-time work activities, 4.8% were available for work and 4.8% were not active in the labour market because of illness ( 10), family responsibilities including pregnancy ( 16), custodial sentence ( 4) or other reasons ( 7).

Moved Out of Contact and No Response

0.2% of the Year 11 leavers had left the area and their destinations could not be established.

It was not possible to make contact with 3.7% of the young people. This compares with a national figure of 1.7% in 2005 (the latest national figures available).
