Parents & Carers :

If your child is in Years 12 - 13

Year 12/13 are very important in your son or daughter’s life. Once they have finished in further education or the 6th form, your child reaches another key decision point. They will decide on their options for Year 13 and beyond– whether to apply for a university course, start a new college course, an Apprenticeship, other training or get a job.

Year 12/13 students don't have to go to university to carry on with their education. There are a variety of courses on offer at local 6th forms or colleges which might be more suited to their wants and skills.

Whatever they choose, planning is important. They need to think about what they want to do in year 12 so that they can apply early in their final year at school or college. Higher Education is usually accessed after the end of Year 13, but students need to start planning their applications during Year 12. Remember, Personal Advisers are there to help in college, 6th form or at your local Connexions Drop in Centre.

Take an active interest in their choices and check their progress in meeting deadlines for UCAS application process and any employment opportunities they are considering.

They will need to be aware of employments trends locally and nationally (LMI) so they can make their choices more objectively - can we link here or need more explanation?
